As a primary care physician, Dr. Clark Trask has treated numerous patients for obesity and obesity related problems such as diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, hypertension and arthritis. He has observed firsthand the fact that with two-thirds of Americans either overweight or obese, the current model of simply treating the health consequences of obesity is not working. He also understands the many pressures in our culture today: a barrage of processed foods, high calorie dense foods, super-sized fast food meals and soft drinks, and constant marketing to a public that is mostly naive to the health consequences of what they eat. The old adage that "You are what you eat" has been forgotten!
He feels very strongly that obesity is a chronic disease just like diabetes or hypertension. It is a lifetime problem for people and requires the same care model used for other chronic diseases. However, Dr. Trask grew frustrated trying to treat obesity in the confines of a traditional medical practice. Like many doctors, he counseled patients to "lose weight" without having the specialized tools, training or resources to help them achieve this goal. He notes, "Telling an overweight or obese person to lose weight is like telling an asthmatic to quit wheezing. It is not a matter of willpower. It is a medical problem that we have simply failed to address in traditional Western medicine."

Dr. Trask is board certified by both the American Board of Family Medicine and by American Board of Bariatric Medicine. He opened Medical Weight Loss of the Lowcountry in the fall of 2007 for comprehensive medical treatment of obesity.
Dr. Trask attended Vanderbilt University for his undergraduate work and received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He completed his residency in family medicine in Asheville, North Carolina. In addition to being Medical Director of Medical Weight Loss of the Lowcountry, he is a primary care doctor at Coastal CareMD.
