Weight loss is achieved through a structured program that includes diet, exercise and, when appropriate, prescription drug management. The diet most often involves a Low Calorie Diet that involves meal replacements and shakes but allows you to eat a healthy balance of foods you enjoy with a strong emphasis on fruits and vegetables. There is also a Very Low Calorie Diet option requiring more extensive and frequent lab testing for those requiring more rapid weight loss. With either diet, you will need to track your daily caloric intake and will have a one on one assessment and review with the doctor.
The exercise portion of the program sets a goal of burning at least 2000 calories a week through aerobic training. It involves an emphasis on Non-Exercise Aerobic Training (NEAT) which means you can achieve this doing activities you may already be engaged in such as walking up stairs, doing yard work, or going on walks or bicycle rides. We also encourage weight training to build muscle mass which will help raise your metabolic rate and burn more daily calories. You will track your daily physical activity to record how many calories you burn.
Many folks also find it helpful to use prescription drugs to help achieve their weight or maintain their weight. Your initial assessment will include evaluation for weight reduction medicines. The doctor will also assess all of your medications as many people are not aware that certain prescriptions may be contributing to their weight gain (or could be changed to assist in their weight loss). In these instances, we would make recommendations in consultation with the physician who is prescribing those medicines.
This medically sound program will help you achieve a healthier weight and a healthier life. Your motivation comes from your own success. START TODAY.
